Apapacho World is a studio based in Mexico City that is enamored with the artistry of hand-crafted objects. Our collection is a beautiful amalgamation of Mexican traditions and modern design, seamlessly blending cultural heritage with contemporary flair resulting in editioned pieces for the collector. We assist in the design process and that helps guide the master artisans to create these unique objects. The technique for the ceramics is based in a tiny village in Mexico we discovered after exploring the country and visiting many pottery towns.

What makes Apapacho World pieces unique?

At our studio we design all the forms and work with artisans to collaborate and breathe life into these ideas with their techniques. All of our pieces are handbuilt and our philosophy takes the slow road. Therefore each pieces have slight variations and technically are a 1/1

Ceramic Technique explained

The reason these pieces have a heavy weight to them and a particular color is because the clay is collected from the nearby mountains of Zapotitlan. The clay itself is either brown, natural or a reddish color. After the object is handbuilt without the use of a potters wheel. It takes weeks to dry. Once dried the pieces is burnished with a smooth stone to close the pores. After coming out of the handbuilt low temperature oven. The pieces are dipped or buffed in beeswax.

A collaborative approach, how so?

Apapacho World team designs the pieces in conjunction with the artisans knowledge and capabilities of the material. Some designs are exact from our drawings and others end up being design collaborations between us. It's a long process of earning trust on both sides, spending time with the families, eating and celebrating occassions together, and of course constantly being present.

Our sustainable practices

We are proud to collaborate with five families from communities across Mexico, ensuring they receive fair payment for each handcrafted piece. By honoring their artistry and tradition, we create a sustainable partnership that values their skills, providing meaningful support and earning a fair and direct income for their incredible work.

At the heart of our project is a deep respect for the environment and the communities we work with.  Our process is intentionally slow and thoughtful, aligning with both the natural rhythms of our artisans' craft and the planet's needs.

All our products are crafted with 100% natural materials. Our packaging is equally considered--we use compostable unprinted cardboard to minimize waste and biodegradable packing popcorn which dissolves when you add it to water and can be used for your plants. For international deliveries we acknowledge the use of bubble wrap, but we continue exploring more sustainable alternatives.

Beyond our creations, we are committed to supporting the families we collaborate with by sharing agro-ecological practices, seeds and knowledge. As Diana operates a regenerative agro-ecological farm. This fosters local food security and strengthens our connection to sustainable living, ensuring that our impact extends beyond artistry to holistic community care.
